Yesterday my husband texted me from deployment and told me their airplane had been struck by lightening.
What?!!!! In seventeen years this has never happened to him!
He reassured me that they were all okay and I moved on with my day, researched how common lightening strikes actually are, and eagerly awaited a good story when he called!
A few days later he called and told me they had experienced a serious emergency and that they had landed right away. The crew was stuck at their current location until a part could be obtained to fix their plane. He wouldn’t tell me the details of their situations but he expressed his concern over landing safely.
Almost every week this deployment he has either not flown due to maintenance problems with the planes or had to land early due to dangerous issues on the plane.
When I realized that I wasn’t particularly worried about him flying or being struck by lightening, I thought how easy it would be to get worked up about his experiences and worry about all the “what ifs” that could have happened when his plane was struck by lightening or the planes mechanical problems.
“What if” I’m just grateful that he’s ok? “What if” I have faith in God that my husband is in His hands, I don’t need to worry, and that God already has it all worked out?
Ya, I think I’ll stick with those thoughts. Gratitude and faith feel way better than worry.
