When I lived in Rhode Island our family rented an amazing house from the nicest couple, Scott and Lynn, we have ever had as landlords. After a rocky start to house hunting there, we were blessed with a huge house that was next to a lake, that had a pool, and that was even on a quiet lane. The owners lent us kayaks, boats, life jackets, and even kept up the pool for us. It was dreamy!
At the beginning of the our stay I was a little stressed out because my three year old boy kept breaking things and writing on walls (Now it’s my four-year-old twins doing the damage!). One day when I was apologizing to Lynn about something, she said nonchalantly, “Don’t worry about it, everything is fixable.” I was astonished! Could I really have such understanding landlords?!
It really makes sense that she would believe this philosophy as she and her husband Scott owned a bike business for the disabled. They have seen their fair share of problems running their business and fixing bikes.
This thought, “Everything is fixable,” comes to my mind every time my kids break something or I run into a challenging problem. It’s possible the not everything is fixable, however, I believe that every problem we encounter has a solution.
Thinking “Everything is fixable” creates more positive emotions in my body so that I continually persevere when things get challenging. It’s a thought that helps me NOT give up!!
This thought also calms me down. We are currently building a house and the builders ran into a problem with my kitchen design and a weight bearing issue with the roof. I admit to freaking out a little bit that day. I managed to keep myself calm by telling myself that “Everything is fixable!” Sure enough the roof and kitchen problem were solved that day.
I invite all of you to try this thought out and see if it works for you. What challenges in your life seem unsurmountable? It’s possible that “Everything is fixable.”
