Growth

Lately I’ve been thinking about how growth is like the stock market.

Take a look:

At the beginning of a new endeavor we’re usually really excited and motivated to do our task, but when the task becomes old, it starts to become mundane and a little boring and our motivation wanes.

After a while we either give up the task or persevere and dig in to accomplish what we set out to do.

Whenever we actually accomplish the goal, however, it won’t be without ups AND downs.

If you look at the chart you will see highs and lows in the stock market yet, there is a consistent trend upwards.

If we persevere through the lows, we will inevitably experience growth. Personal growth trends will also be upward, with high AND lows. Life will always throw at us lessons for our personal growth.

For example, I have seven kids. When I had one child I felt very overwhelmed. When I had three kids I really felt overwhelmed. Kids are a great way to achieve growth because most people don’t normally just stop being a parent! We keep persevering through all the high and lows and eventually reach a higher level growth. I never thought I’d be able to handle seven children when I had three but I have grown in my capacity of what I am able to manage. It has taken thought work every day to reach the level I’m currently at and it will taken even more to reach the level I’m hoping to achieve.

The trick is to be compassionate with ourselves when our motivation drops.

We can do hard things even when we don’t want to. It’s called being an Adult. Keep persevering. You can do it!
